Rhode Island Grassroots

Rhode Island Hospital Department of Nuclear Medicine started offering educational seminars long before they were mandatory. In the early 1980's Vince Cherico was hired as the chief technologist and he actually started the tradition. Every Spring he invited speakers from the New England area to present a lecture at our hospital. It was an entire day event and included a trip to Providence's Federal Hill to join the locals in celebrating the feast of St. Joseph. It was always both an educational and fun day for everyone. When Vince left his position in 1988 I really wanted to keep the tradition alive. I shortened the day to 3-4 lectures and added a Fall symposium. The social event atmosphere is still present, although, unlike Vince who really know how to throw an event, it ends by noon. I have been fortunate to have such wonderful people to call on for support throughout the years. From our technologists & students to our vendors, doctors and physicists all have always been willing to give of their time and present timely and professional topics to the nuclear medicine community. I couldn't do it without them and I am most grateful that I have had the opportunity to work with such bright and dedicated people.
