Society of Nuclear Medicine Educator's Committee Report - 2008

39th Annual Symposium
April 18 & 19, 2008

Student's Presentation Program

25 students from 5 programs submitted abstracts and presented at this year's symposium. 22 students presented oral talks and 3 students presented poster displays.

7 vendors supplied gifts to the presenting students.

NECTS gave free conference registration, a luncheon on Friday April 18 and paid for the hotel stays for one night for all participating students.

Registry Review
Over 50 students form all 10 New England programs attended.

This is the first year of the registry review. Four sessions were conducted. The following areas of the NMTCB Board Exam were covered by the following educators.

1:00 - 1:45 Radiopharmacy - Rich Serino
2:00 - 2:45 Procedures - Leo Nalivaika
2:45 - 3:15 Break
3:15 - 4:00 Instrumentation - Stephanie Rhymer
4:15 - 5:00 Radiation Safety - Cathy Coleman

Educator's Meeting
Due to the overwhelming response from students submitting papers and presenting, the Educators meeting was cancelled. However, the chairperson did make an effort to speak with all Programs Directors in attendance to solicit any opinions, thoughts and suggestions.

Suggestions for next year - 2009

A limit of 4 - 5 students per program will be allowed to present. The decision as to who represents the individual programs will be at the discretion of that program's director.

If NECTS pre-pays for the student presenters' rooms, that a limit of 2 rooms per program should be offered and the rooms must be occupied by a minimum of two students per room. This pre-pay arrangement should be offered for one night only and that night would be the choice of the students requiring a room.

The current form used for abstract submission should be changed to a Microsoft Word - Word Processing document. The format of the abstract will stay the same however the provided form should be discontinued because too many students were unable to download it and use it the way it was intended. By using a simple word processing document everyone will be able to submit an abstract and the same document could be used for the NECTS E-Journal. A new abstract submission description will be forwarded to all program director in the coming months.

Respectfully submitted,
Tony Sicignano, BS, CNMT, RT(N)
